Executive Consultant with project engineering, project management, project development and startup & commissioning experience in the power industry. Subject matter expert in air quality control systems (AQCS), alternate fuels, biomass, boilers, coal combustion residuals, heat transfer, material handling and waste-to-energy (WTE).
Performed technology review and site assessment for the conversion of an existing unit at a coal fired power plant in Arizona for woody biomass firing.
Served as the lead consultant for the preparation of a feasibility analyses for RICE engine development at two sites in Minnesota for an organization of member municipalities.
Provided mechanical engineering expertise that was paramount for the development of a 53 MW biomass power project located in the southeast.
Developed novel acid gas emissions scrubber technology implemented at two refuse-derived fuel (RDF)/biomass fired power plants. Also developed a selective non-catalytic (SNCR) based NOx emissions control system for one of these plants to meet the more stringent NOx emissions limits required for bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boilers.
Served as his company’s Supervising Startup Engineer for a large BFB fired boiler retrofit project which, at the time it was commissioned, was the largest boiler of this type in the world.
Provided significant technical expertise in the development of his company’s WTE business by recommending and conducting full scale test burns to determine the feasibility of converting stoker coal fired boilers for dedicated RDF firing.
Served as senior mechanical engineer for the development and execution of a 5½ mile long high pressure/high temperature steam transmission line project from a utility boiler to a paper mill. With a capacity of 430,000 pounds per hour this steam line was the largest steam line in the world serving a single customer.
Authored and co-authored numerous technical papers and made presentations at various conferences or to organizations including Power-Gen International, ASME Power Conference, International Biomass Conference, Council of Industrial Boiler Owners, Electric Power Research Institute, Rocky Mountain Electric League and Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers.
Recipient of the prestigious ASME 2012 Prime Movers Award for his paper titled “Woody Biomass Co-Firing in Pulverized Coal Fired Boilers” which he presented at the 2011 ASME Power Conference.
Authored and presented paper titled “Wood Yard Development & Design for Large Biomass Power Plants” at Power-Gen International 2017.
